Stream Starting Soon Screens

Starting soon screens fill the dead air while you get your mic levels right and wait for viewers to trickle in. The animated versions work better than static images because they signal that the stream is live and active, not frozen. A looping countdown timer or animated background keeps people in the tab instead of clicking away.

Generate a countdown or waiting screen, export as WebM, and set it as a looping Media Source in your "Starting Soon" scene. When you are ready to go live, switch scenes. The overlay stops playing automatically.

Webcam Frames and Borders

A webcam frame sits on top of your camera feed and gives it a polished edge. Animated frames are more engaging than static PNG borders because they add subtle motion that makes your facecam feel intentional rather than pasted on. Glow effects, pulsing borders, and themed frames all work well here.

In OBS, layer the webcam frame Media Source directly above your Video Capture Device. Resize both to match. Set the frame to loop so it plays continuously throughout your stream.

Alert Animations

Alert overlays fire when someone follows, subscribes, donates, or raids your stream. The standard approach is a browser source connected to Streamlabs or StreamElements, but browser sources are CPU-heavy. If your alerts are visual-only (no dynamic text from the API), a transparent WebM file triggered via OBS's Media Source is lighter and more reliable.

Generate your alert animation, download the WebM, and add it as a Media Source. Uncheck "Loop" so it plays once and stops. Use OBS Advanced Scene Switcher or a hotkey to show and hide the source when you need it.

Lower Thirds for Streams

Lower thirds sit in the bottom portion of the frame and display your name, topic, social handles, or sponsor information. They are standard in broadcast but underused in live streaming. An animated lower third that slides in and holds gives your stream a professional look that static text overlays cannot match.

For streams, you typically want a looping version that stays visible or a one-shot version that plays an intro animation and then holds on the last frame. OBS Media Source handles both. Set loop on for persistent display or off for a single play.

Subscribe and Like Button Overlays

Animated subscribe and like button overlays remind viewers to engage without you having to say it every five minutes. A short animation that pops in, draws attention, and fades out is less intrusive than a permanent banner and more effective than a verbal callout alone.

These work best as one-shot Media Sources triggered during natural pauses in your stream. Generate a subscribe button animation, set it as a non-looping Media Source, and toggle its visibility with a hotkey when you want the reminder to play.

How to Add Overlays in OBS Studio

Adding a transparent WebM overlay to OBS takes about 30 seconds. Here is the exact process:

1. Open OBS Studio. In the Sources panel at the bottom of the screen, click the + button.
2. Select Media Source. Give it a descriptive name like "Webcam Frame" or "Sub Alert" so you can find it later.
3. Click Browse and select the .webm file you downloaded from Video Effect Vibe.
4. Set the loop behavior. Uncheck "Loop" for one-shot animations like alerts and subscribe buttons. Check "Loop" for persistent overlays like webcam frames, lower thirds, and backgrounds.
5. Click OK. Drag the source to position it in your scene and resize it as needed. The transparent areas will be invisible automatically.
