36How transparent WebM works
A normal video has red, green and blue channels. A transparent WebM adds a fourth, the alpha channel, which says how opaque each pixel is. Software that understands alpha shows the video over whatever is behind it. Software that does not will show a solid background, usually black.
That support gap is the main thing to know about WebM. OBS and modern browsers handle it well. Some video editors do not, which is where ProRes 4444 comes in.
