Free Video Overlays for Any Editor

A video overlay is a clip with a transparent background that you place on a layer above your footage. Subscribe buttons, lower thirds, frames, light effects and animated text are all overlays. Because the background is transparent, whatever sits underneath keeps showing through.

Video Effect Vibe gives you two ways to get them. Browse the Community library of creator-made overlays and download one per day for free, or describe the overlay you want and generate it with AI. Every export is a real alpha-channel file, so it drops straight into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut and OBS.

Types of video overlays you can get

The library is organised by what the overlay does in an edit, so you can go straight to the one you need.

  • Subscribe, like and follow buttons for YouTube, TikTok and Shorts
  • Lower thirds and name plates for interviews and tutorials
  • Frames, borders and webcam overlays for streams and reaction videos
  • Light, glitch, particle and confetti effects that sit on top of a clip
  • Countdown timers, progress bars and notification pop-ups
  • Animated text and logo reveals

How the free video overlays work

A free account can download one Community asset per day with a watermark. Downloads paid for with tokens have no watermark.

You can also add any editable Community overlay to your workspace and change its text, colours, timing and layout in the browser before you export. That part costs nothing. If you want a different look altogether, a token pack lets you generate a new overlay from a text prompt.

How to use a video overlay in your edit

Export ProRes 4444 when you are editing in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro; it is the safest choice for alpha. Export WebM when the overlay is going into OBS or onto a web page. Drop the file on a track above your footage, trim it to length and you are done. No keying or blend mode is needed because the transparency is already in the file.

Transparent WebM can show glow or shadow artifacts in CapCut, so test the result in your target editor before you commit to it.

Frequently asked questions

Are the video overlays really free?

+

Yes, with limits. A free account can download one Community overlay per day with a watermark and no tokens. Customising a Community overlay in the browser is free. Generating a new overlay with AI, and downloads without a watermark, need a paid token pack.

What is the difference between a video overlay and a video effect?

+

An overlay is any transparent clip layered over footage, such as a subscribe button or a lower third. A video effect changes how the footage itself looks, for example a glitch, colour grade or distortion. Plenty of effects are delivered as overlays, like light leaks, film grain and particles, which is why the two terms overlap.

Which format should I download, WebM or ProRes?

+

Use ProRes 4444 for editing in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. Use WebM with alpha for OBS and web use. Both keep the transparent background.

Can I make a custom video overlay with AI?

+

Yes. Describe the overlay in plain language, such as a neon subscribe button with a bell ring, and Video Effect Vibe generates a transparent clip of up to 10 seconds that you can tweak and export.

Do the overlays work in CapCut, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve?

+

They work in editors that support alpha-channel video. ProRes 4444 is the most reliable option in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. In CapCut, transparent WebM can show glow or shadow artifacts, so preview it before you export.

Can I use the overlays in monetised videos?

+

The export license page lists the exact terms that apply to your downloads, so check it before you publish.
